Mother Carmel - I hope you died writhing in agony.

Crying at the moment for my poor Mum. We have the Centenary Celebrations for our Primary School, St Brigid's in Mordialloc, coming up in August this year and past pupils have been asked if they would care to share some memories from their time there.

I was 3rd generation at my primary school, so we have many past pupils in our family, and I have been asking some of my family members about it. I always knew my Mum absolutely hated Primary School and that she'd "had a hard time" but today she told me what actually happened:

She was regularly caned by Mother Carmel, the Principal, till she wet her pants in front of the class

I was flabbergasted and shaking. I just feel so terrible for her. This will have affected her her whole life and she's only just told me now. She will be 65 this year.

I'm going to submit it to the person collating the memories from past pupils and see if it gets published - but I'm betting it won't.

Hooray! I have just received my birthday present from Mum, Kent and Diana: a digital radio.

I knew it was going to be delivered today, so last night I cleared off all the junk on top of the microwave in readiness. And now here it is, in all its satin-white glory and the first song it played to me was, "I Can't Go For That," by Hall and Oates. Absolutely crystal clear.

My shoulders dropped from my ears, I breathed out and felt a huge smile on my face. None of that crackle and hiss of background static which sets my teeth on edge. Sublime.

My New Career...

Have finally decided what I want to do with my life - it has only taken almost 41 years:

Editing and Proofreading.

Started googling courses and came across Swinburne Uni's page on "Powerful Editing and Proofreading."

Incredibly, there was a typo on the page. If I point it out, do you think I'll get a discount?

Alina's First Sleepover...

...was tonight. A little boy from her Grade 1/2 class, Brayden (a fellow Coeliac) is right now sound asleep in my girl's room. I have never heard a kid ask for so much food in my life, I thought my two were un-fill-up-able, this kid takes the cake. And the popcorn. And the biscuits. And the icy poles. And the roast potatoes.

And just before going to bed, he asked me, "What are we having for breakfast?"
